ProTradeCraft Demonstration Zone

Live Inside Show Village

ProTradeCraft’s Jobsite Training Center comes to life in Show Village. In-depth demonstrations will teach critical roof and wall flashing details, continuous exterior insulation techniques, and window installation for exterior projects; we will also install a shower unit and a backsplash, looking at important steps in those processes. On Thursday, we’ll set up a sandbox jobsite where you can test out the products for yourself. Hold onto your drinks! During the block party, we’ll set up the ProTradeCraft Skills Challenge obstacle course for you to test your skill (and TikTok dances) against the competition.

Styrofoam Insulation Inside and Out with DuPont
We will use Styrofoam insulation and GreatStuff to insulate wall cavities before the shower unit is installed. We will also demonstrate how to install continuous insulation (CI) on the outside of a wall. We will buck out a door opening and flash it using Dupont flashing tapes, and finally, we will install RainVent Battens rainscreen over the styrofoam. Products used: Dupont Styrofoam, GreatStuff, Flex Wrap, Straight Flash, and RainVent Battens.

Fabricate a custom countertop and backsplash with Wilsonart
Using Thinscape Performance Tops and carpentry tools, we will cut a hole for a sink, build up the edges, shape, sand, and install an engineered composite vanity top to fit a corner vanity unit. We will also install a backsplash wall, cutting holes in the Thinscape for plumbing and Skills challenge activities.

Critical roof and wall flashings with Tapco Tools
Learn how to bend custom roof and wall flashings on a Tapco Brake: Drip edge, rake metal, kickout, dormer flashing, head flashing, z-flashing, and more. Aron Jones will also tie in a soffit to siding, and if you ask nicely, he will show you how to bend standing seam metal roofing panels.

Lap Siding Meets Board And Batten with Everlast Advanced Composite Siding
Learn how to install Everlast Advanced Composite Siding and trim. Using standard carpentry tools, we’ll cut and install lap siding up a rake wall, transitioning to board-and-batten for an upscale combination that adds pizzazz to any home. This maintenance-free material lasts longer than you do.

Representatives from The Oak Ridge National Lab and the Pacific Northwest National Lab will showcase The Building Science Advisor tool, the Building America Solutions Center, and the "Adding Insulation when ReSiding (AIRS)" initiative. This session brings the what, how, and why of continuous exterior insulation.
SPECIAL CAMEO: Dr. Joe Lstiburek on whether continuous insulation is a good idea or a great idea.
